Nice artwork, but why those folks decided to settle here? It's like kinda nasty to live on the big pile of flesh, and it's really good for them that it's don't rot for some reason.

Well, that's part of the mystery isn't it. Part of the worldbuilding reason is that the entire area where this giant hand is located is body horror themed. People tend to grow things instead of building them, so living houses, living roads, living pretty much everything becomes normalized over time.
